ABSTRACT
You may never know who is in your audience and what his or her reaction has been to what you have said. In January 1964, having won the Chauvenet Prize of the Mathematical Association of America, I spoke at the University of California, Berkeley. The prize was presented at a public ceremony in a large auditorium and I was invited to make an acceptance speech.
