ABSTRACT
In practical terms, a solid angle measures the aperture of the semi-infinite conical slice of space, with its peak at the center of the sphere and its sides touching the boundary of the surface patch (or its projection on the unit sphere). Essentially, a solid angle is not associated with any physically meaningful unit. Instead, a mathematical unit, the steradian (sr) is assigned to this quantity.
