ABSTRACT

O n a recent winter vacation in Florida, we frequently found ourselves in the company of ex-Northerners who had retired to the South. When we discussed the content of this book with them, they seemed as interested as other, younger people with whom we had talked, but they also had questions about heart disease that they felt were of special concern to older people and wondered if these questions would be answered by reading the

book. Upon reflection, we thought the best way to address these concerns would be in a separate chapter with a different kind of format-one that used a direct question and answer approach to the problems of the “older heart.”
