ABSTRACT

A need for understanding and analysis In the United States and the rest of the Western world prior to September 11, 2001, the terms “terrorist,” “terrorism,” and “terrorist activity” were reserved for “other” countries and third-world locations struggling for an identity. However, this perception could not have been further from the truth. Although only a country for 235 years, the United States, like many other countries, was born through the revolutionary acts of ordinary people. While viewed as revolutionary acts of citizens, according to modern denitions of terrorism these acts could be seen as terrorist activities today.
