Things took a nasty turn for Charles Ponzi in August 1920. His business, the Securities Exchange Company, on School Street in Boston, had, on other, kinder days, block-long lines of people waiting for hours to hand him their money. On August 14, those people were still outside, but this time, they wanted Charles Ponzi’s head.
