ABSTRACT

D uring the past 50 years computer technology has made enormous advances and continues to do so at ever increasing rates. Ray Kurzweil1 predicts that a personal computer costing $1,000

will have the computing power of the human brain by the year 2020. “By 2030, it will take a village of human brains to match a $1,000 computer. By 2050, $1,000 worth of computing will equal the processing power of all human brains on earth.” [1] This chapter presents some of the coming technological advances that support Kurzweil’s prediction, advances that will underpin and run parallel to equally dramatic advances in AI.
