ABSTRACT

Inammation is a host defense mechanism initiated by foreign molecules, generating a cascade of mediators including prostaglandins leading to tissue damage as a bystander effect in an attempt by the body to get rid of the foreign antigen. Inammation needs to be controlled when it is inappropriate, aberrant, or sustained or leads to signiœcant tissue damage. There are different mechanisms to halt the inammatory cascade, one of which targets the key pathway of production of key mediators of inammation-the cyclooxygenase pathway.
