ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of the nuts and bolts of workflow and process management. It defines terms, identifies stakeholders, draws relationships to quality improvement theories and methodologies, discusses the importance of workflow and process management to change management, and describes the key points at which workflow and process management should be performed to successfully impact EHR and HIT selection, implementation, adoption, and optimization. Finally, this chapter introduces the steps in workflow and process management that then are covered in the remainder of the book.
