ABSTRACT
Introduction MS-DRGs and APCs are both extremely complex prospective payment systems. Both systems have been modified and customized for other third-party payers. In this chapter we examine several other prospective payment systems, starting with Medicare-developed systems that address different types of healthcare providers. We complete the chapter with two extended case studies addressing how private third-party payers can use the PPSs developed by Medicare.
