ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter is to discuss vascular infusion technology in the gestating animal. Developmental and reproductive toxicology (DART) studies require the use of both rodent and non-rodent species. The species most often used for DART studies are the rat or mouse as the rodent species and the rabbit as the non-rodent species. Other non-rodent species that may be used are the dog and the minipig. This chapter will give insights into the use of the rabbit, dog, rat, and mouse for this specialist area of toxicological assessment using this route of administration.
