Synthesis of Phenyl 2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-acetyl-1-thio-β-d- galactopyranoside

Glycochemistry is an important science, particularly for the synthesis of complex carbohydrates which play key roles in several biological events. Phenyl 1-thio-glycosides in particular and related thioglycosides have been used extensively for the synthesis of complex oligosaccharides.1 Moreover, aryl 1-thio-β-d-galactopyranosides have been used recently as specic inhibitors of human galectins.2
