ABSTRACT

Public health in the United States is the “other arm” of healthcare delivery. Public health is primarily focused on the health of the population, on analysis of disease and injury patterns and their causes, on developing and implementing policies and practices that address health problems, and, at a local level, in delivering primary and preventive services to at-risk populations. Public health services are provided through governmental support at the local community, state, and federal levels. The core roles of public health service are “assessment, policy development and quality assurance.”1 These services generally serve the needs of those persons who otherwise lack access to medical care and of those who may be subject to infectious diseases.
