ABSTRACT

Clinical ethics considerations in the critically ill will remain a case-by-case-based model, unless there is a change to a proactive, integrated, systematic process in health-care institutions and systems. An enlightened role of each individual’s responsibility in advance care planning about end-of-life care is essential. This chapter provides a background of the problem and identies solutions to develop a system that promotes preventive ethics and opens communication for patients and their family on this topic.
