ABSTRACT

Over the years, it has become clear that there are some distinct di§erences between crisis negotiations as practiced on “the street” or by law enforcement versus how this process is implemented in prisons. In fact there are more similarities than di§erences. A similar observation has been made by Needham (1977) and Fuselier (1988). I have observed only six di§erences between the two settings. How this will play out as more and more prisons become privatized remains to be seen.
