ABSTRACT

The rst contact any building user has with a particular project is accessing the property and gaining entry to the building through the site. The rst and most important line of defense of a building is the accessibility of the site, its relationship with placement of the building, and the landscape design. Landscaping helps identify borders between public and private space and helps reinforce desired behaviors by dening movement areas and patterns (Crowe, 2000, p. 124). This chapter begins by presenting natural methods of CPTED with landscape architecture. It ends with a presentation of mechanical techniques for high-security environments using landscape CPTED strategies.
