ABSTRACT
The main processes reported in the literature for upgrading of heavy oils, i.e., those based on carbon rejection and hydrogen addition routes, are described in this chapter. The relevant characteristics of new technologies, i.e., emerging technologies for achieving this purpose, are reported. Advantages and disadvantages of the combinations of commercially applied processes are discussed.
