ABSTRACT

Design is an experiential process. The stakeholders apply their expertise to the process based on past experience. During the process they gain further experience that can be used for future projects. Design management is the management of this experience: past, present and future. It includes managing client communication, the design concept, the configuration, design documentation, and other experience used and gained during the design project. This chapter discusses the different kinds of experiences that people have and how to apply and manage these during design projects. The concept map for this chapter is shown in Figure 17.1. The focus question is: What is design management? The focal concept is design management.
