ABSTRACT

To develop the governing differential equations for the midsurface displacements u, v, and w, which define the geometry or kinematics of deformation of a shell, we proceed as in the case of plates. We shall begin by deriving the basic relationship between the stress resultants and the deformations for shells of general shape. In Sections 13.4 and 13.5 are developed the relationships for the stresses and strain energy under an arbitrary loading.
