ABSTRACT
The inextensional-shell theory and the shallow-shell theory are simplified shell theories. The former is valid when no midsurface straining of the plate occurs because of a particular type of loading (Section 15.10). The latter applies to thin shells of very large radius or small depth. Topics on shells made from orthotropic and composite materials are included in Sections 15.11 and 15.12.
