ABSTRACT
The beginning of the twentieth century seems to have been the converging point for the three main branches of physics: mechanics, electromagnetism, and thermodynamics. We have already seen how thermodynamics and mechanics unified to give birth to statistical mechanics, and how this unification not only explained mysterious quantities such as entropy, but also increased our understanding of the ultimate structure of matter.
