Dengue is an old disease known by numerous household names: break-borne fever, dandy fever, three-day fever, seven-day fever, or giraffe fever, to name a few (Simmons, 1931a). Historically, dengue epidemics have occurred in cycles, sporadically emerging and re-emerging throughout the past.
