ABSTRACT

The team assembled the next morning, eager to see what the day would bring. Ken kicked things off:

“We’re going to start laying out our flow lines; but before we do that, we’re going to set down our targets together in writing, and we’ll post them on the wall in a prominent place to remind us every day what we’ve committed to deliver. Keep in mind that we own our targets as a team. Our objective is to meet all of our goals, period. I captured what we originally signed up for and wanted to go through them one by one, and make sure we all still agree. This will be our last chance to debate. If we feel they should be changed for whatever reasons, it’s important that none of us be shy and that we speak up. There is nothing wrong with push-back; it’s better, and everyone has a voice in this. We may not change any of them, but we certainly should openly discuss where any of us think we should. Sylvia, please help me tape this up to the wall.” (See Table 7.1.)

“You can see that we have the production start-up date of February 27. This is a ‘can’t miss’ date. We’ll launch on time, which means that we’ll be at full production for current demand, starting on that date. Any objections?”
