ABSTRACT

The term homeland security is sufficiently broad to encompass a large array of entities that threaten the stability and security of the United States. Examples include terrorism, war, espionage, pandemics, natural disasters, environmental changes, world politics, limited quantities of natural resources, organized crime, and street crime. These entities are merely a subset of the overall superset of threats that endanger the modern United States. Such entities permeate history with accounts of destruction and devastation. Unfortunately, given the imperfections of man and the fallibility of human nature, the future shall manifest threats that are commensurate with the threats of history.
