ABSTRACT
As you might surmise, this image is far from the reality most independent inventors enjoy. It is true that some independent inventors are very successful and have fascinating stories to tell. However, it is worth remembering that the only stories you are going to hear on the news, on the Internet, and through friends are ones about those independent inventors who made it big. The ones who were unsuccessful and blew a lot of money on something that left them with little or nothing to show for it aren’t newsworthy because they are not unusual.2 They also tend not to brag to their friends about their lack of success.
