ABSTRACT

Collection of blood samples from the orbital sinus of rodents is well documented and has been described by several authors.2,3 The technique is rapid for experienced technicians; however, pro˜ciency can be slow due to the nature of the procedure. One disadvantage is the inability to collect samples by this technique for use in coagulation studies.4 The orbital sinus procedure results in mild tissue damage releasing tissue thromboplastin, which results in prolonged prothrombin times (PTs).
