ABSTRACT

In the wildly successful movie Rain Man, Dustin Hoffman played a character who was an autistic savant. He had an amazing ability to calculate, memorize, and spit out detailed information but absolutely had no idea how to put it into perspective. Living in the information age for the last 30 years or so has made managerial savants of many when it comes to metrics. We have access to prodigious amounts of data, and the fact that like the “Rain Man,” we often have no concept of perspective does not stop us from trying to act on it.
