ABSTRACT

Micromechanics formulas that link the properties of the composite material to the properties of the constituents (ber and matrix) were developed in Chapter 4. The variations of lamina properties with orientation were explored in Chapter 5. The relationships between the structural properties of the nal laminate and those of the laminae and their orientations are developed in this chapter. While using a laminated composite allows the designer to optimize the material/structural system, it complicates the analysis. Therefore, a simple relationship between the forces and moments applied to a laminate and the strains and curvatures induced is required for the design of laminated plates and shells, which is the objective of this chapter.
