ABSTRACT

The subject of research can be anxiety-provoking for many criminal justice students. One reason for this distress is the belief that research is synonymous with statistics, which in turn equates to mathematics. After a hearty dose of curriculum that is typically immersed in the social sciences, it is understandable that many students are intimidated by a course that is more closely aligned with pure science and requires analytical skills. Another reason that students shy away from the study of research is the misconception that research is solely an academic enterprise that will likely never be required of the practitioner.
