ABSTRACT

Statistics relates to the methods of designing and conducting research studies by describing the data collected and serving as the foundations of decisions based on that data. In one sense, statistics is a descriptive language. Statistics is a branch of applied mathematics that we use to plan research, gather, organize, and analyze data; present data in research papers; and make inferences about data. Psychologists, for example, use statistics to support or refute various predictions concerning the behaviors of humans and animals.1
