ABSTRACT
There are three categories of brakes: disc brakes, drum/shoe brakes, and ribbon brakes. Currently, the —rst are widespread throughout the automobile industry and are replacing drum brakes. The second are used in the railway industry and lifts. The third are used wherever rotation velocities are low so that high pressures are not required for braking.
