ABSTRACT

Microbial biopolymers are polymeric substances synthesized by microorganisms. They include polysaccharides, polyamides, polyesters, and polyanhydrides (Rehm, 2010). Depending on their composition and molecular weight, microbial polymers have properties that range from rheology modiers of aqueous systems to bioplastics, which makes them useful in many industrial applications (e.g., agro-food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, textile, paper, and oil recovery) (Moreno et al., 1998).
