ABSTRACT

Machining is usually adopted whenever the part accuracy and surface quality are of a prime importance. Machining activities form around 20% of the manufacturing activities in United States. It is carried out on machine tools that are responsible for generating the motions required for producing a given part geometry. Such machine tools form 70% of the operating production machines. They are characterized by their high production accuracy compared to metal-forming machine tools. Conventional machine tools are classied as general purpose or special purpose machine tools.
