ABSTRACT
A particle may also be an aggregate of smaller particles. In this case, the volume fraction, shape, and size of the aggregate will depend on its structure and the colloidal interaction between the particles and, in addition, may be affected by the size and direction of the hydrodynamic forces exerted on it by the continuous phase relative to the colloidal interactions. The viscosity of dispersions of particles will be discussed in Chapter 10.
