ABSTRACT

As mentioned in the preceding chapter, in rheology one deals with the relationship between forces and deformations as a function of time. In this chapter and the next one, the discussion will be limited to the relation between forces and deformations. The basic notions stress and strain will be discussed. Different simple and well-defined ways of deforming a material and definitions of accompanying rheological quantities are discussed in Chapter 3. The role of time in rheology will be discussed extensively in Sections 4.1 and 4.2. In Chapter 5, yielding and fracture behavior of materials will be discussed.
