ABSTRACT

The increased public awareness of the environmental issues faced globally has triggered the need for companies to make their supply chains more environmental friendly. Green supply chain management (GSCM) integrates ecological factors with supply chain management principles to address how an organization’s supply chain processes affect the environment (www.cognizant.com). With increasing customer awareness and regulatory norms, organizations with greener supply chain management practices will have a competitive edge over companies that are reluctant to embrace GSCM. Thus, a majority of small and large companies understand and embrace the need for protecting the environment and utilizing GSCM practices as means for reducing costs while increasing customer and shareholder value.
