ABSTRACT

To identify the cardiac rhythm with confidence you need to examine a rhythm strip – a prolonged recording of the ECG from just one lead, usually lead II (Fig. 3.1). Most ECG machines automatically include a rhythm strip at the bottom of a 12-lead ECG. If your machine does not, make sure you have recorded one yourself. The diagnosis of rhythm abnormalities may only become apparent when you examine 12 or more consecutive complexes.
