ABSTRACT
Healthcare workers should have their immunity against some specific infections assessed before commencing work in high-risk areas, but even optimal levels of antibody (e.g. against tetanus) may not provide protection against a large inoculum. All reasonable precautions to prevent exposure, therefore, must be undertaken even in the most ‘immune’ individual.
