The general principles of food poisoning and food hygiene are the same in developing and developed countries. However, in most developing countries food hygiene is made more difficult by the tropical climate as well as socio-economic problems such as poverty. Diarrhoeal diseases (especially in childhood) are much more common in the developing world and are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality.
