ABSTRACT
Foodborne and infectious diseases are an enormous global health problem that does not respect borders. Nations wishing to remain disease free and reduce the increasing burden of foodborne illness must establish effective strategies for minimizing the risks of introduction of disease-causing agents transported in food from other countries.
