ABSTRACT

The results and effects of disease and trauma are, in general terms, similar in all victims, but there are some special features of injuries to infants and children that require consideration. It is important to remember that babies and children are not just small adults and they have their own unique problems, such as stillbirth and sudden infant death syndrome, which have important medico-legal aspects. They are also particularly dependent and hence vulnerable to abuse, both physical and sexual.
