ABSTRACT
Most psychological approaches to understanding criminal behaviour tend to offer individual-orientated explanations, focusing for example upon possible biological or psychological abnormalities or else upon individual decision-making processes. The aim of this chapter is to draw attention to the fact that criminal behaviour, like all human behaviour, is rooted in social interaction, and without an appreciation of this, including the fundamental normality of many of the social psychological processes involved, we cannot fully understand or combat crime.
