ABSTRACT
The approach to the assessment of the sick surgical patient should be systematic to ensure that life-threatening or potentially life-threatening conditions and important aspects of care are not overlooked. Employing a system regularly ensures that you will use it when you are under pressure. The CCrISP system of assessment is shown in Fig. 2.1. It is the system that many experienced doctors use. The same system is used for all patients, whether stable or unstable.
