Other points to watch are: (a) all negative imperatives (e.g. ‘don’t do’, ‘don’t say’) are formed with the subjunctive: vete ‘go away’, no te vayas ‘don’t go away’; (b) for Latin Americans there is no vosotros imperative: ustedes + the subjunctive is used for both strangers and friends, and even for children and animals.
