ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Many Geography students begin their university degrees with little experience of Historical Geography. Some may even be surprised by its existence, given the promotional emphasis placed by schools and universities alike on Geography’s ability to speak to contemporary events and up-to-date issues. In this brief introduction we therefore want to say a little about why Historical Geography is such a central and important part of Human Geography.
