ABSTRACT
INTRODUCTION Human geography inevitably engages with issues that are controversial, emotive and politically charged. One challenge for students is to see beyond the news headlines and political ‘spin’ – properly to understand the central issues, and objectively to assess the facts and figures in reaching their own conclusions. Indeed these are amongst the key ‘transferable skills’ of any Geography degree.
