ABSTRACT

A very strong command can be given by using the imperfective infinitive: Сиде´ть! (Sit down!) Лежáть! (Lie down!) Молчáть! (Be quiet!) Very rarely, an adverb can be used as a command: Ти´хо! (Silence!) Verbs of motion with the prefix по-are frequently used in the past tense to invite someone to start moving (for the verbs of motion with prefixes, ☞ 25.1): Пошли´! (Let us go!)
