ABSTRACT

Vocal cords (Fig. 4.1) The larynx is composed of a series of cartilages, ligaments and brous membranes. At bronchoscopy the epiglottis is the more proximal structure. It is a broad leaflike structure. The sides are attached by the arytenoid cartilages. The cuneiform and corniculate can be seen at the end of the arytenoid cartilage. The cuneiform cartilage is more anterior and superior to the corniculate cartilage. The vocal folds consist of the false cords or vestibular folds and the true vocal folds. They stretch back from the thyroid angle to the vocal processes of the arytenoids. The vocal folds are involved in the production of sound.
