The following section is based primarily on the practices, guidelines, and standard of care in the United States. This is not meant to suggest that standards, procedures, and guidelines are absent in other countries. These concepts are certainly foundational and transferable to anyone practicing the phlebologic arts. In the authors’ discussions and observations with international colleagues, many of these same concepts are followed diligently throughout the world.
