ABSTRACT

The purpose of an office or outpatient facility is to facilitate diagnosis and treatment of minor diseases and the follow-up of patients with colorectal disease. A great deal of treatment can be delivered on an outpatient basis, but not all patients and not all colorectal disorders are suitable for ambulatory management. Local health care organization and the methods of reimbursement available dictate to a great extent what can be delivered. The purpose of this chapter is to demonstrate how a proctologic office may be organized. It is understood that the design must be adapted to individual and local situations depending on resources available, thus the office set-up may be designed for diagnostic evaluation alone or be equipped for both diagnosis and minor surgical procedures.
