ABSTRACT

Perianal sepsis corresponds to a spectrum of conditions very commonly encountered in surgical practice. Its presentation may be acute, in the form of an abscess, or chronic as a fistula. Even if most perianal sepsis is simple and easy to manage, a thorough understanding of the etiology and anatomy is required to avoid persistence or recurrence of the disease or impairment of fecal continence. Inadequate attention to detail may lead to serious consequences, in particular necrotizing fasciitis.
